Hey there - I’m Sergiu, I’m working on the app. This app evolved out of my personal struggle to internalise the English language while living in London. I didn’t put much effort in learning the language at first, but then I realised that my quality of life deteriorates because of my inability to master the language, and express myself through the English language same way I do in Romanian, Russian.

After about 5 years I decided to fix this. I started doing audio lessons and practiced speaking out loud with them, and noticed that after 3 months, the biggest problems I had related to the English language vanished. I no longer thought about what to say, what to translate -- everything just starting coming out effortlessly. So to me this was a big eye-opener. Using short stories, responding to questions, and repeating the same story for one week helped me internalise English to a level I’m happy with.

Out of this experience, I decided to make Spokn a place where everyone has access to the same power of absorbing a new language, to a native level, quickly. I’m an engineer, so to me it feels like with the level of AI at this point this is possible to do at an astonishing quality.

And so, Spokn is a simple app. Each week, new story lessons arrive in a Weekly Drop, and you can practise the ones that are useful to you throughout the week. Behind them is a ton of science and work to make the practice genuinely effective for you.

We invite you to give it a try - and if you can commit to doing a lesson every day, repeating it, then we promise you very quick progress, better than tutors or Duolingo, or any other AI-based apps in the market :)
